Shock as man kills elder, eats body parts

Police in Kilifi county are investigating a bizarre incident in Takaungu village, Kilifi county, where a man killed his neighbour Ainen Twalib, 75, and ate some body parts.

Zachariah Charo, 30, killed the elder and ate his intestines, liver and brain.

Kilifi South sub-county police commander Mr Ktabul Kochalle confirmed the incident, saying it was a rare case of cannibalism.

The police boss said that the suspect succumbed to injuries inflicted by villagers before police officers arrested him.

''Some villagers called the police to intervene, but he had already been badly hurt when we arrived at the scene. So we took him to Vipingo hospital for treatment before he was transferred to Mtwapa police station,'' said Kochalle.

According to the police statement, Charo reportedly murdered Twalib on April 15 this year,  in his semi-permanent house, when they had just come back from the mosque after evening prayers.

''The perpetrator is suspected to have crushed the head of the deceased using a stone and severed the abdomen by use of a knife,'' Kochalle stated.

Investigators are yet to establish the motive of the heinous act.
